Happy springtime, everyone. I'm so glad to see the city coming alive with all of the flowers and the green, but I'm feeling a little bittersweet as well. My dear friend and musical collaborator Heather Perry is leaving at the end of this month. Miss Heather and I met as co-teachers in the group piano program at the Old Town School of Folk Music, and went on to form multiple musical projects and a strong friendship. Heather has been part of Lindsay & The Shimmies, played bass on my solo recordings, and is the leader of the Ye-Ye's. We have played together at festivals, at cozy backyard shows, at fancy luncheons, at the Metro, in other states, at weddings, at birthday parties, in costumes, in our underwear. We have bounced ideas off of each other written songs together. We have lived together and shared secrets and laughter and breakfasts and late night dance parties. I am heartbroken to be losing such a wonderful collaborator but grateful that our music will live on and that she'll be just a phone call (or FaceTime) away.
We played our final kids show last Saturday at the Old Town School (which was featured in Chicago Parent!) and our big farewell show for The Ye-Ye's is coming up on May 22nd at Subterranean. The incredible Rachele Eve, who was one of the original Ye-Ye's, has joined the bill, and it's going to be an amazing show. Come catch your last chance to see us crooning all your favorites in French-- let's give Heather a great sendoff.
