Lindsay and the Lights Go Out

Exciting news: the band has been so solid lately that we decided we needed something awesome to call ourselves. From now on, full band shows of mine will be billed as Lindsay and the Lights Go Out. This name was decided at the great show that Nick and Jarod and I played last weekend at the DCtorium; during our set we kept throwing out potential band names to the audience and using their response to evaluate their quality. This one was the clear winner after our set, but it was confirmed for sure around midnight that night when there was a blackout at the venue. The lights never came back on and we had to load out under the glow of cell phone flashlights. If that's not a sign, I don't know what is.

Lindsay and the Lights Go Out will be playing at Lincoln Square's annual Square Roots Festival on Saturday, July 9th at 4:45pm. I love when I get to be part of this big joyous festival thrown by and for the awesome community that is the Old Town School of Folk Music. You won't want to miss it!

Speaking of the Old Town School, the Youth Music Showcase a few weeks ago was an overwhelmingly beautiful experience. The show closed with a few hundred voices joining together on my piece "We Will Sing." It was a pretty indescribable moment... It was both impossible to imagine and exactly as I'd dreamed. The show was the morning after the shooting at Pulse in Orlando, and so the power of all of those voices raised together and crying out "Sing for a world that's full of love" felt especially important. Ben Chandler took a nice video, which you can see here:

The next Cover to Cover is coming up on July 10, and will be the last one before I take the month of August off. Participants are Emily Hurd, John Mead, and Emily White. Then later in July I'm heading out to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where I'll be playing a show at The Makespace and co-teaching a songwriting camp with my former bandmate and dear friend Heather Perry. GOOD STUFF.

I still love summer. Hope you are enjoying yours.
